“I choose materials for their ability to tell the story I want to communicate. Every material has its own language, and that dialogue is what makes me get up in the morning.”

During her studies, Hanne began making Vulvases: ceramic vases shaped around a vulva, created to put women's sexual discomfort literally on the table.

After the Vulvases, Hanne kept making vases and her love for ceramics grew. The Vulvases became a huge success, and Hanne kept her focus on school. Eventually Hanne decided to combine two universities, studying at both at once.

After school hours, Hanne worked on her own projects, like the Karel Portraits: a colourful, hand-woven textile wall hanging bringing together a whole series of different faces. With each portrait, Hanne revealed a little more of her inner world.

Hanne graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven with Choker. A year later, Hanne graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie with her installation Collective Loneliness and with Freddy Marbic, a 600kg marble sculpture that looks like plastic but is, in fact, the exact opposite: a question to the viewer about what is still real in a time dominated by AI and fake news. This marked the beginning of her practice. Today Hanne is a full-time artist, evolving her work around the central themes of life. Hanne mirrors society by asking questions that start from within herself, hoping to connect with the world around her. Her central aim, in life as in her work, is to create human connection.
